Welcome to the Downshire Primary School PTA!

Downshire PTA is a fundraising group comprising parents and teaching staff who meet around 8 times during the year to chat through ideas and plan events, at which we also help out. Last year we raised an amazing £9,000 for the school and all its pupils, and had lots of fun doing so! That's almost double the average amount raised by PTA's in the UK.

In the past, money raised has been used to provide the following:

  • Provide Spanish and French lessons for our pupils.
  • The purchase of 32 pupil ipads.
  • The installation of additional stage lighting and sound equipment.
  • Outdoor play resources.
  • Additional reading books in classrooms.
  • A Christmas gift for each pupil.
  • To subsidise class trips and active learning days.
  • A leaving present for the P7s.

These projects would not be possible without the hard work and commitment of our PTA Committee and members and the tremendous support and generosity of you, the parents.

The committee occasionally relies on the help of volunteers, because for some events there just aren’t enough of us to go round. We welcome help with such things as baking buns, designing flyers, raising sponsorship and manning stalls/tables at our discos and fairs. Being involved with the PTA, either as a member or by volunteering to help at events is a unique opportunity to get an insight into the environment in which your children learn and play on a daily basis. It is a relaxed and sociable way of making a valuable contribution, getting to know teachers and other parents.

No qualifications are required - we need all sorts of people with all kinds of skills. Don't worry if you don't have much time to spare, we know how busy family life can be and we don't expect you to be able to help with every event or go to every meeting!
