This year at Downshire, in partnership with Lagan Valley Rotary Club, we are placing a ‘Tree of Hope’ outside the front of school. This is a special focal point for both the school and surrounding community. Decorations will be available, for a small donation, for you to write a message for a loved one who is unwell or no longer present in your life. The decoration will then be placed on the tree. The donations from this will be divided between the Cancer Fund for Children and school. The event will run from Monday 9th – Saturday 14th December. The ‘Tree of Hope’ will officially open on Monday 9th December at 1.30pm. This will involve a short ceremony at the front of school where the choir will perform – please feel free to attend as this is open to everyone. The choir will then perform again at 2.30pm. From this point you can then purchase your decoration between 1.30 pm and 3.00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Friday that week while attending our KS2 Christmas performances or from the village centre each evening. Your decoration will then be added to the tree. The ‘Tree of Hope’ will remain in place until the weekend before Christmas. This is an event for the whole community so please feel free to take the opportunity, and encourage others not connected with our school, to write a message of hope and/or remembrance this Christmas time.
